The Riverhead Police Department Crime Prevention Unit is inviting Neighborhood Watch groups to host National Night Out block parties on the evening of Tuesday, Aug. 1 to mark the 39th Annual National Night Out.
McGruff the Crime Dog and the RPD Crime Unit will visit National Night Out block parties that evening with giveaways and information on how to help make neighborhoods safer.
The event kicks off with the announcement of the annual National Night Out poster contest winners at Town Hall at 2 p.m. on Aug. 1.
National Night Our asks neighborhoods to hold front porch vigils by leaving outdoor lights on between 7 and 10 p.m. and joining with neighbors in a variety of events such as block parties, cookouts, flashlight walks, contests and youth programs.
