A Riverhead man already facing several criminal charges for allegedly stealing items from parked cars in the past two weeks was arrested again yesterday in connection with another incident in Riverside.
Southampton Town Police said they charged Michael Meade, 38, with Petit Larceny in the theft of tools from a motor vehicle at the Budget Host Inn at 30 Lake Avenue in Riverside.
Officers responding to a 6:23 a.m. call about the larceny from a vehicle outside the motel located Meade walking in the area a short time later, according to a press release from Southampton Town Police.
Meade was arrested on a charge of Petit Larceny, a class A misdemeanor, processed at headquarters and taken to Southampton Justice Court for arraignment, police said in the press release.
Yesterday’s arrest marks the fourth time in two weeks Meade has been arrested in Riverhead or Southampton for alleged thefts from parked vehicles.
Meade was also charged by Southampton Town Police July 27 in connection with larcenies from vehicles in the Riverside area. He is facing petit larceny and grand larceny charges in connection with those incidents, according to Southampton Town Police.
Meade was arrested by Riverhead Police on Aug. 1 on stolen property and drug possession charges in connection with the theft of merchandise from a vehicle parked on East Main Street, according to a previous police press release. Police said Meade broke a window to gain access to that vehicle.
He was arrested again in Riverhead on Saturday for allegedly stealing merchandise and several credit cards from a vehicle parked outside a Route 58 nail salon yesterday, Riverhead Police said. Meade is facing two felony and three class A misdemeanor charges in that case.
According to New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision records available online, Meade was released on parole from state prison in March, after serving 13 months on a one-and-a-half to three-year sentence for a grand larceny conviction.
