A man has been arrested and charged with grand larceny after purchasing a car in Riverside using movie prop money, according to Southampton Police.
Police said a man reportedly sold his vehicle for $4,000 to a man who contacted him on Facebook Marketplace, only to realize after the transaction that he had received movie prop money. Detectives conducted an investigation and identified the suspect as Victor Marquez, 22 of Brentwood, police said in a press release.
Marquez was stopped by Suffolk County Police on Sunday while operating the vehicle and was transported to Southampton Town Police Headquarters after being arraigned in Suffolk County on other charges, police said. Marquez is charged with third-degree grand larceny, a felony, and was held for arraignment, police said.
Editor’s note: A criminal charge is an accusation. A person charged with a crime is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
