The Riverhead VFW Auxiliary hosted a pancake breakfast fundraiser Sunday morning at the Riverhead VFW post on Parkway Street.
Members of the auxiliary cooked a hearty breakfast of pancakes, eggs over-easy, sausage patties, and home fries.
Riverhead High School NJROTC cadets took orders, served meals and cleared tables.
The breakfast event drew a good turnout, including an order of 15 meals to go from the Riverhead Police Department, said VFW Auxiliary President Keri Najdzion. “We really appreciate their support, as well as the support of the whole community,” she said. “Without the support of the community, this breakfast would not be a success.”
“All our proceeds from this fundraiser go to helping local veterans in need,” Najdzion said. “We’ve been able to purchase a new home heating system, purchase home heating fuel, as well as groceries (just to name a few) for veterans, all because of the money raised from these breakfasts,” Najdzion said.
The Auxiliary hosts the fundraising breakfast five times a year. The next one will be coming up in September, she said.
