Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital has a new chief medical officer.
Alison C. Madden, MD was appointed to the position in July, new Chief Medical Officer, effective July 21, 2025, Chief Administrative Officer Paul J. Connor announced.
Madden brings more than two decades of leadership in clinical excellence, patient safety, and medical education across prominent healthcare institutions, the hospital said in a press release.
“Dr. Madden is an award-winning physician executive whose commitment to quality, innovation, and community-centered care aligns perfectly with the mission and values of Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital,” Connor said. “Her proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and enhance health outcomes will be an extraordinary asset to our patients and staff on the North Fork and Shelter Island.”
Madden most recently served as chief medical officer and vice president of medical affairs at St. Joseph Hospital in Nashua, New Hampshire, where she oversaw strategic operations for a 208-bed community hospital. In this role, she advanced medical staff in education and training, introduced key clinical service improvements, and led the successful launch of a geriatric inpatient psychiatry unit to address critical community needs, Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital said..
“Her extensive background includes leadership roles at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester, Massachusetts and UMass Memorial Medical Center, where she directed quality and risk initiatives in obstetrics and gynecology and mentored the next generation of healthcare providers. Throughout her career, Dr. Madden has played an integral role in advancing patient-centered initiatives, implementing electronic medical records transitions, and promoting interdisciplinary collaboration.” according to the press release.
Madden is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology and currently holds active medical licenses in Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
Madden earned her Doctor of Medicine degree from Cornell University Medical College and completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, where she later served as associate residency director and earned numerous awards for excellence in teaching and leadership. She will open a gynecology practice this fall at the Stony Brook Medicine Advanced Primary and Specialty Care facility on the North Fork.
She is a published researcher and advocate for equitable, high-quality care, the hospital said. “Dr. Madden has a demonstrated commitment to improving patient experience, supporting staff development, and strengthening the community-hospital connection,” according to the press release.
