Riverhead Police charged three people with selling alcohol to minors during an alcohol sales compliance check across town Sunday, conducted by the department’s COPE division in cooperation with the Riverhead Community Awareness Program.
Police said in a press release the following were arrested and charged with unlawful dealing with a child in the first degree, a class A misdemeanor:
- a 16-year-old employee of 7-Eleven, 162 Old Country Road (DMV);
- Ercan Simsek, 50, of Brookhaven, an employee of Empire Gas at 640 Main Road, Aquebogue; and
- Jaqueline Mejia Alverado, 20, of Riverhead, an employee of Riverhead Supermarket & Del, 945 West Main Street, Riverhead.
All three were processed and released on desk appearance tickets for future court dates, police said.
The following vendors were checked and found to be in compliance, police said:
- American Gas, 1427 Main Road, Jamesport
- Sabor Deli Latino,192 Old Country Road, Riverhead
- Speedway, 870 Old Country Road, Riverhead
- 7-Eleven, 1050 Old Country Road, Riverhead
- Valero, 1356 Old Country Road, Riverhead
- Bolla Mobil, 1575 Old Country Road, Riverhead
- One Stop Smoke Shop, 1698 Old Country Road, Riverhead
- Sunoco, 1879 Old Country Road, Riverhead
The Riverhead Police Department will continue to conduct compliance checks throughout the year, police said.
