Peconic Bay Medical Center’s annual gala, held last week at the Westhampton Country Club, raised more than $1.1 million to benefit its new center for women’s health services, the Riverhead hospital announced yesterday.

Nearly 300 people attended the gala, which also honored Michael J. Dowling, president and CEO of Northwell Health. PBMC said Dowling’s “visionary leadership … fundamentally reshaped health care on Eastern Long Island.”

The Emilie Roy Corey Center for Women and Infants is slated to open in early 2027, the hospital said. It will “set a new standard of comprehensive women’s health with modernized facilities, expert clinicians and a patient-centered approach,” offering “leading-edge women’s surgical care, advanced diagnostic services, and comprehensive labor and delivery services,” PBMC President  Amy Loeb said.

These programs ensure that Suffolk County residents have access to the latest advances in breast health, urogynecology, neonatology and specialized care for women at all stages of life ensuring they receive the same level of care close to home that they would at the nation’s leading hospitals, she said.

“Women should not have to travel long distances to receive the highest quality care for all their health needs,” Loeb said.

PBMC benefactor Emilie Roy Corey, who chairs the board of the Peconic Bay Medical Center Foundation, said as a longtime resident of the East End, she knows “how vital it is for families to have access to advanced care without having to leave our community.”  Corey and her husband Michael have made a gift of $10 million to the PBMC Foundation to support the development of the new center.

“It is an honor to support the creation of this center, which will give women and infants the resources, expertise and compassion they deserve,” Corey said. “Seeing so many people come together at the gala to invest in this vision is deeply moving, and I am proud to be part of an effort that will impact generations of families to come.”

PBMC unveiled preliminary plans for the center in 2023, as part of  a $92 million expansion that included a now-completed expansion of the hospital’s emergency department.

Hospital officials credit Dowling’s leadership for PBMC’s growth since being integrated into the Northwell Health system in 2016. Initiatives include the establishment of critical resources such as the Kanas Regional Heart Center, the Poole Family Trauma and Emergency Center, the Bill and Ruth Ann Harnisch Neurosciences Center and the celebrated Emilie Roy Corey Center for Women and Infants, among other significant capital investments, according to the hospital’s press release.
