A Flanders man died after being struck by a vehicle that left the scene last night on Flanders Road in Riverside.
A Shirley woman is under arrest on charges of leaving the scene of an accident involving a fatality, Southampton Town Police said in a press release early this morning.
Patrol officers found a man lying unconscious in the westbound lane of Flanders Road in the area of Vail Avenue Sunday at approximately 7:25 p.m., police said.
The victim, Eli Damian Mazat, 46, succumbed to his injuries, police said.
Southampton Police said officers subsequently located the involved vehicle and its operator, identified by police as Silvia Alvarez De Reyes, 46, of Shirley.
De Reyes was arrested and charged with Leaving the Scene of An Accident
Involving a Fatality, a class D felony, police said. She was held overnight for morning arraignment at Southampton Town Justice Court.
Flanders Road was closed to traffic for several hours Sunday night, from the Riverside traffic circle to Vail Avenue, while Southampton Town Police detectives and a New York State Police Accident Reconstruction team investigated. The road has been reopened in all directions, police said.
