Riverhead Police charged two people with selling alcohol to minors during an alcohol sales compliance check across town Monday, conducted by the department’s COPE division in cooperation with the Riverhead Community Awareness Program.

Police said in a press release the following were arrested and charged with unlawful dealing with a child in the first degree, a class A misdemeanor: 

  • Shah Hasan, 52, of Centereach, an employee of Valero at 5904 NY-25A, in Wading River; and
  • Muhammad Afzal, 67, of Patchogue, an employee of Sunoco at 4129 Middle Country Road in Calverton.

Both men were processed and released on desk appearance tickets for future court dates, police said.

The follow vendors were checked and found to be in compliance, according to the report:

  • 6324 NY-25A UNIT 4, Wading River (The Thirsty Cellar)
  • 4670 NY-25, Calverton (BP)
  • 3705 Middle Country Rd, Calverton (Mobil)
  • 1879 Old Country Rd, Riverhead (Sunoco)
  • 407 E Main St, Riverhead (Riverhead Stationery)
  • 415 E Man St, Riverhead (Mobil)
  • 121 W Main St, Riverhead (KD Beer and Smoke)
  • 134 W Main St, Riverhead (Lucky Liquor)
