Michael L. Piro of Calverton died on Jan. 6, 2026, at home. He was 63 years old.

He was born in Germany on Dec. 28, 1962, to Helene (Heindel) and Joseph Piro. He attended Belport High School. He served as a sergeant with the New York State Police Troop L. He was a member of the Mattituck Gun Club and the Association of Former NYS Troopers. His family said he enjoyed trapshooting and, more than anything else, spending time with his grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife Cynthia in 2020. He is survived by his children, Melissa (Duncan) Weir of West Islip, Jennifer (Kevin) Nohejl of Aquebogue, Michael (Jacklyn) Piro of Calverton, and Joseph Piro of New York City; by his siblings, Janet Houtenbrink, Patricia Matouzzi, Donna Piro and Kim Piro; and by his grandchildren, Jillian, Anna, Karlie and Sullivan.

The family will receive visitors on Friday, Jan. 9, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead. A funeral service will be held on Jan. 10 at 10 a.m. at St. Isidore’s Church, with private cremation to follow.
