Three protests are planned in Riverhead on Saturday for “No Kings 3,” a nationwide mobilization that organizers say includes more than 3,100 protests and marches in a national day of action opposing Trump administration policies and actions. Organizers say they expect it will be one of the largest single-day nonviolent nationwide protests in U.S. history.

The three actions planned for Riverhead include a march from the county center complex into downtown Riverhead Saturday morning, a rally at the Suffolk County Supreme Court building on Griffing Avenue Saturday afternoon and a youth contingent that will march from Riverhead High School to the Supreme Court building to join the demonstration.

The march from the county center is slated for 9 a.m.  The rally at the Griffing Avenue courthouse will begin at Riverhead Town Hall at noon, and participants will march to the courthouse at 1 p.m. for a rally to take place from 1:30 to 3 p.m. The youth march will proceed from Riverhead High School, to the courthouse via Old Country Road and Roanoke Avenue, according to Riverhead High School student Oliver Earl, an organizer of the youth action. Youth are asked to gather behind the high school at 11:45 a.m.

The national No Kings coalition said local events are committed to nonviolent and lawful protest and that organizers are trained in de-escalation and community safety.

The Riverhead events are among a dozen scheduled to take place across Suffolk County Saturday, including five others on the East End (Greenport, Hampton Bays, Sag Harbor, Southampton and East Hampton.)

No Kings organizers predict that the number of participants Saturday will exceed the 7 million estimated to have attended the second No Kings day, which saw rallies and marches in some 2,500 locations nationwide. The first No Kings event took place in June. Riverhead hosted rallies and demonstrations on each of those days. See photos: June 14 and Oct. 18
