The Suffolk County Council of Scouting America and the Andrew McMorris Foundation will hold Andrew’s Top Gun Run 5K on Saturday, March 28, in Calverton.
The annual run-walk is held on an airport runway and marks what would have been Andrew McMorris’s 20th birthday. McMorris, a Boy Scout from Troop 161, was killed by a drunk driver in September 2018 while hiking on the Greenbelt Trail with fellow Scouts. Several others were seriously injured in the crash.
Organizers say the event serves as both a community memorial and a fundraiser. Proceeds will support the Andrew McMorris Foundation.
Registration, donations and sponsorship opportunities are available online. A virtual participation option is also available for those unable to attend in person.
The event is held in partnership with Strong Island Running Club.
