Riverhead police reported 110 criminal incidents in April, down from 132 reported during the same month last year, according to the department’s monthly activity report released this week.

The department reported a total of 2,864 incidents during the month, slightly higher than the 2,838 incidents reported in April 2025. Non-criminal incidents accounted for 2,754 of the calls for service, while criminal incidents totaled 110.

Police made 72 arrests in April, compared with 79 during the same month last year, and filed 80 charges against adults and juveniles, down from 97 charges in April 2025. Officers issued 1,002 summonses during the month, compared with 1,067 a year earlier.

Motor vehicle accidents also declined year-over-year, with police reporting 106 crashes in April, compared with 133 in April 2025. The department reported one fatal motor vehicle accident during the month.

Domestic incidents declined significantly from the prior year, with police reporting 48 incidents in April, compared with 74 in April 2025.

Shoplifting remained the most frequently reported criminal offense in April, with 26 incidents reported during the month. Petit larceny followed with 18 reported incidents. Police also reported 14 driving while intoxicated offenses, 10 “all other larceny” incidents and seven cases involving destruction or vandalism of property.

Year-to-date through April, Riverhead police have reported 500 criminal incidents, 268 arrests and 4,176 summonses issued.

Among non-criminal calls for service, mutual aid calls accounted for the largest category in April with 913 incidents, followed by aided cases with 441 incidents and service miscellaneous calls with 183 incidents.

The report also shows police collected $1,207.50 in departmental revenues during April, including fees for accident retrieval services, copies of reports and letters of good conduct.
