The parade featured lots of creative floats, like this one from the Riverhead VFW and plenty of red, white and blue. RIverheadLOCAL/Emil Breitenbach Jr.

People lined Main Street this morning for Riverhead’s Fourth of July parade and celebration of the USA’s 250th birthday. Veterans, fire departments, communuity groups, scout troops, churches and elected officials took part in the parade despite the heat wave.

The second part of the town’s sesquicentennial celebration is a spectacular fireworks show over the Peconic Bay in South Jamesport tonight. South Jameport Beach will be open for parking and viewing the show, which is scheduled to begin at 9:30 p.m.
