Riverhead Police and Suffolk County's DWI Task Force are stepping up enforcement to catch intoxicated drivers during a holiday weekend rife with Christmas celebrations, family parties and, for many, alcohol.

Four people were arrested last night during an East End DWI Task Force enforcement effort in Riverhead Town.

Several checkpoints and increased patrols resulted in arrests for DWI, driving while impaired by drugs and driving while impaired by alcohol last night, according to Riverhead Town Police.

Three people were arrested last night as a result of an ongoing enforcement effort by the Suffolk County District Attorney's DWI Task Force in the Town of Riverhead, including one man who police said had left the scene of an accident on Edwards Avenue, according to a Riverhead Town Police press release.
