Volunteers from National Gird beautified the Long Island Rail Road station in Riverhead on Friday, planting new shrubs and flowers to spruce up a neglected and littered area. 

Volunteers spruced up the garden at the Riverhead train station Saturday morning with fall flowering plants, additional shrubs and fresh mulch donated by Home Depot and Gabrielsen Farms.

“This place looks fantastic. It looks like a new train station.” More than three dozen volunteers turned out to help plant new garden beds at the Riverhead train station Saturday morning. The LIRR has worked to spruce up the station house and platform area, including installing security cameras and repointing the bricks.
