School superintendent

Bob Hagan, 51, of Rocky Point, is currently the assistant superintendent for human resources in the Longwood Central School District, a position he’s held since September 2020. He has 26 years experience as an educator, with the last 18 in administration.

The Riverhead Board of Education has extended by one month the deadline for applications for the superintendent of schools. The district has had an interim superintendent at the helm since October 2023.

The Riverhead Central School District launched an online survey this week to obtain community members’ opinions on what qualities the next superintendent should possess and what they should prioritize coming into office. The survey is available in multiple languages and will be open until Dec. 20.

The board hopes to have the next superintendent hired by mid-March, which will allow the superintendent to help fill other vacant positions within the district’s central administration.

Riverhead Central School District Superintendent Augustine Tornatore and the district’s top business official, Rodney Asse, have resigned their positions. 

The board of education is set to appoint a new superintendent at a special meeting tonight called for that purpose. The board has not disclosed the identity of the new hire.

Riverhead school buses will be equipped with stop-arm cameras to catch violators. The school board will hire a search firm to help hire a permanent superintendent. Wrap up from the Aug. 25 meeting.
