The Suffolk County Department of Public Works plans ground-spraying with Anvil at Indian Island Park early Thursday morning to control adult mosquitos there.

Suffolk County health officials are urging residents to take precautions against mosquito bites following a high count of mosquito samples testing positive for the West Nile virus this season.

Mosquito samples collected two weeks ago from Aquebogue and Manorville tested positive for the West Nile virus, the Suffolk County Department of Health Services said today. 

Suffolk County’s vector control division plans to apply larvicides Tuesday  to control mosquitoes in certain marshes, including some in the Town of Riverhead and one in Flanders, the Suffolk County Health Department announced in a press release issued late Monday afternoon.

Whooping cough is highly contagious and can be very serious, even deadly, especially for infants who are unvaccinated or incompletely vaccinated. It can be treated with antibiotics. Early diagnosis is important.
