Riverhead library district residents vote today on the library’s 2010-2011 proposed operating budget.

The proposed $3.09 million budget represents a $98,610 spending increase, when combined with reductions in interest income, will increase district taxation by 4.37 percent.

“The 4.37 percent increase in taxes is primarily due to the new MTA payroll tax and the huge increase in the New York State retirement estimate, unfortunately coinciding with decreased revenues from both interest income and New York State funding,” according to a library publication.

If approved, an average Riverhead homeowner will pay an additional 56 cents per month, according to the document.

Details of the library’s budget proposal are found in the attached Riverhead Library budget summary.

Voting will take place from 10 am to 8 pm in the library’s grand meeting room at the library, 330 Court Street, Riverhead.  Eligible voters of the Riverhead Central School District are eligible to vote on the library budget.
