Paving on the newly widened Route 58 got underway last night. The paving work will take place in three segments, with some work being completed during the overnight hours and some during the day.
The segment of Route 58 from the Target shopping center east to Ostrander Avenue, including the traffic circle at Roanoke Avenue, will be closed for paving from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., Sunday through Thursday, beginning tonight and ending Thursday, April 22.
Paving of Route 58 from Target west to Mill Road, including the new Pulaski Street spur, will take place during the day from April 19 through April 28.
Route 58 from Mill Road west to Route 25 will be paved beginning May 3.
{sidebar id=17}Middle Road, which will be relied upon as an alternate route during the paving, is still closed between Mill Road and Osborn Avenue due to flooding on Osborn and Horton avenues after the March 30-31 storm. Riverhead Highway Superintendent Gio Woodson, whose crews have been pumping water off the roadways for more than a week, said the extremely high water table has caused the roads to remain flooded. Woodson said he can’t predict when the roads will be reopened.
“We just have to wait it out,” Woodson said yesterday. “It’s day by day.”
