2013 0515 drug task

Riverhead Town Police assisted in the East End Drug Task Force arrest of two local men Tuesday evening.

Jeffrey Liggon, 56, of Shirley, was arrested on fifth and seventh degree charges of criminal possession of a controlled substance 6:38 p.m. Tuesday at Laundry Palace on Harrison Avenue, according to police.

Shortly afterward, Michael Bale, 47, of Aquebogue, was arrested on two counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and one count of third-degree burglary in connection with a current burglary investigation, police said.

Both men were arraigned Wednesday morning at Riverhead Town Justice Court and will be held without bail until Monday.

Justice Richard Ehlers said Bale, who wore black wading boots at Wednesday’s arraignment, has “a few out-of-state felonies” on his record.

Liggon, he said, also has a prior felony conviction on his record, which police described as “substantial.”

No further information about the incident or the suspects was provided by police.

Editor’s note: A criminal charge is an accusation. By law, a person charged with a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
