2014 0525 sobriety checkpoint

Riverhead Town Police and the East End DWI Task Force arrested seven people for driving while intoxicated last night, as a result of DWI checkpoints and patrols conducted throughout the town between 8 p.m. and 4 a.m.

Police said the following people were charged with DWI: Juan D. Leon-Gonzalez, 25, of Riverside; Anastasios Mastorakis, 37, of Astoria; JKathryn O’Brien, 18, of Pleasantville, N.Y.; Kyle Koroleski, 18, of Riverhead; Maximino Miranda-Muniz, 27, of Eastport; and Jose E. Alvarado-Ortega, 35, of Southold.

Koroleski was additionally charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, according to the police report.

Erick Lopez, 29, of Riverhead, was charged with aggravated DWI, police said.

The checkpoints were set up on Sound Avenue near West Lane in Riverhead, East Main Street near Howell Avenue, Cross River Drive (CR 105) near Hubbard Avenue, and Peconic Avenue near Main Street, according to a Riverhead police press release issued this morning.

Suffolk County Police, N.Y. State Police, Southold Town Police, and Shelter Island Police participated in the East End DWI Task Force operation with Riverhead police.

The East End DWI Task Force was formed in 2012 to combat drunk driving on East End roads, particularly during holidays and the summer season.
