The Riverhead Farmers’ Market’s newest addition for the Christmas season isn’t grown on the North Fork. He’s imported from the North Pole: Santa Claus will be in residence at the farmers’ market every Saturday and Sunday beginning this weekend.
The jolly old elf will be available to hear the little ones’ Christmas wishes and pose for pictures during the farmers’ market’s regular business hours: Saturday from 10 to 3 and Sunday from 11 to 2.
Santa made a surprise appearance at the market on Saturday, to the delight of children who were out shopping with parents and grandparents.
The new location of the Riverhead Farmers’ Market is much bigger than the space used for the market last winter. It’s also recently renovated and — unlike the old space — has heat and bathrooms.
“It’s like a brand new space and it’s very comfortable,” BID Management Association president Ray Pickersgill said. The BIDMA is cosponsoring the market with the Town of Riverhead.
Santa will be seated next to a Christmas tree and the children who visit with him get to take home a free photo, Pickersgill said
Organizers have also added a craft fair for the holiday season. It’s located on the lower level of the building. There’s still room for more craft vendors, Pickersgill said. The fee is $50 per day — “pay as you go,” he said. Interested crafters should contact Pickersgill at Robert James Salon (631-208-8159.)
