Bertha K. Gancarz of Cutchogue died at her home on November 23, 2014. She was 85 years old.

She was born on September 30, 1929 to Alexander and Pauline Matwieczyk and attended Mattituck High School.

On September 4, 1949, she married Paul A. Gancarz at Our Lady of Ostrabrama R.C. Church in Cutchogue.

A life-long resident of Cutchogue, she was a communicant of Our Lady of Ostrabrama Roman Catholic Church, sang in the choir and was a member of the Rosary Society.

Bertha had been a farmer, gardener and baker and will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her husband Paul A. Gancarz; two daughters Patricia VanBourgondien (Robert) and Debra Nowak (Robert); a sister, Helen Misterka of Glastonbury, CT; six grandchildren: Brian Nowak (Alice) of Manorville, Kevin Nowak of Medford, Jaclyn VanBourgondien Tralka (Andrew) of Maui, Hawaii, Betsy VanBourgondien of New Market, NH, Kimberly and Cynthia VanBourgondien of Southold and a great-grandson: Samuel Paul Nowak of Manorville.
She was predeceased by siblings: Anthony (1948), John (2003), Joe (1988) and Jane (2006).

The family received visitors on November 26 at the DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Southold followed by the Liturgy of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Ostrabrama R.C. Church. Father Stan Wadowski and Monsignor John Nosser officiated. Interment was in Sacred Heart R.C. Cemetery.
