A short police pursuit in downtown Riverhead ended in a three-car crash at the intersection of Northville Turnpike and Elton Street Friday afternoon, injuring the drivers of the other two vehicles.
Curtis Trent Jr., 25, of Riverhead, refused to pull over when a Riverhead police officer attempted to stop his Nissan Maxima on Union Avenue at about 4:45 pm. yesterday, according to a Riverhead Police press release.
Trent led the officer on a short chase, crashing into two other vehicles at the intersection of Northville and Elton, police said.
Trent then attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended a short distance away, according to police.
The operators of the other vehicles, Maria Sanchez, 36, of Westhampton Beach and Richard Weiss, 51, of Middle Island, were both transported by Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
Trent was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident, reckless driving and numerous additional vehicle and traffic violations, police said.
The intersection remained closed for several hours while the scene was investigated with the assistance of New York State Police.
