Description: Riverhead Building Supply is a family-owned-and-operated independent lumber and building materials dealer with a strong focus on professional contractors. Their mission is to serve the communities where they live and work by providing homeowners and home builders with quality materials and superior service.

The company operates 10 full-service lumberyards, a roofing and siding distribution location, and six specialty showrooms displaying kitchens, doors, windows and their proprietary line of Heritage Wide Plank flooring.

History: Riverhead Building Supply opened the doors of its first location on Ostrander Avenue on March 15, 1948. Once a longtime farming family, the Goodales originally sought out the Ostrander property – the benchmark of the Riverhead Building Supply brand – for its promising agricultural potential. Jesse R. Goodale II, his brother Harold, and their father (Jesse R. Goodale) decided to invest in the property. However, while repairs and renovations were underway, the elder Goodale suggested to his sons that they instead build a small lumber supply business and operate it with the help of their uncle Percy Ketcham.

This pivotal suggestion and the dedication of the Goodales in bringing the idea to life laid the foundation for what was to become the Riverhead Building Supply of today. Beginning with a single lumber yard, the Company has grown into a major retail lumber and building supply operation.

The RBS legacy of quality and excellence continues with the third generation of the Goodale family. They are committed to bringing new ideas and innovations to the residential construction community on Long Island while continuing to support the RBS motto, “Build Smarter. Build Better”.

Future: In business for over 65 years, the company will continue to expand in markets where its high-quality products and strong customer service contribute to the success of their customers.
