Riverhead softball alum Julia Morrow threw her second career perfect game for the University of Tampa Spartans last Tuesday.

Seven perfect innings and 15 strikeouts against Long Island University Post earned her the Spartan’s eight perfect game in the program’s history.

Both teams were unable to score any points the first five innings of the game. Tampa managed to score its only point at the bottom of the sixth, but that was all Morrow needed to claim her 10th victory of the season.

She earned her 11th in the game immediately afterward, finishing up the doubleheader with LIU Post with a 3-1 win.

Her first career perfect game for the Spartans was only last month on Feb. 7, when she struck out 15 batters in a game against Chadron State.

But her very first perfect game was right here in Riverhead in 2010, when she threw the only perfect game in the town’s history as a senior.

This February, Morrow was named to the 50-player watch list for the NCFA Division II National Player of the Year award. She is currently a senior at the University of Tampa.
