An Oktoberfest-themed pub crawl will hit the streets of downtown Riverhead this October, featuring food and drink specials and revelers costumed in traditional German outfits.

The event, which is scheduled for Sunday, October 18, follows the success of Riverhead’s leprechaun-themed pub crawl in March and the town’s first-ever SantaCon last December.

Downtown restaurants, bars and breweries will provide food and drink specials and live music. The Hotel Indigo and Hyatt hotels will also offer discounts on rooms.

Bracelets sold at $10 each will give participants access to the specials at participating vendors. Proceeds from the bracelets will be donated to a local charity, which will be determined through a vote from participating vendors.

The event will last from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.

“People had a blast at the Leprechaun and SantaCon events,” said Nicole Evers, director of events at the Suffolk Theater.

The event is still in the early planning stages, according to Evers. But several downtown vendors have already confirmed their participation, including Digger O’Dells, Vines and Hops and Cliff’s Rendezvous, in addition to the Suffolk Theater, which is organizing the event.

Evers is waiting on confirmation from other downtown restaurants and breweries.

“It’s a great reason to get everyone together,” she said. “The other events were very successful.”

Last December’s SantaCon raised $7,800 for New Beginnings’ Brendan House and drew hundreds of costumed revelers downtown. The March of the Leprechauns this spring raised more than $12,000 for two local charitable causes and drew hundreds more.

Bracelets can be purchased in advance online at the Suffolk Theater’s website.
