East End Arts has been granted a $30,000 “Art Works” award from the National Endowment for the Arts, which they will use to launch a new curatorial training program.

The award is part of an $82 million effort by the NEA to fund local arts projects and partnerships. The “Art Works” award supports the creation of work, the presentation of both new and existing work, lifelong learning in the arts and public engagement with the arts.

“It is an honor for East End Arts to receive this award from NEA,” East End Arts executive director Patricia Drake Snyder said.

The new program will be aimed towards visual artists interested in learning the art of curating an art exhibition, building on the success of JumpstART. It will also provide another career avenue for artists, teaching them the necessary business skills to develop an exhibit.

“As East End Arts is presented with more and more exhibition venues, we feel this is a good time to initiate the curatorial training program and support area artists by providing another skill building curriculum,” Snyder said.

“The arts are all around us, enhancing our lives in ways both subtle and obvious, expected and unexpected,” said NEA Chairman Jane Chu. “Supporting projects like this one from East End Arts offers more opportunities to engage in the arts every day.”

Further details about the new curatorial training program will be available by December 2016.
