A heat advisory has been issued for tomorrow afternoon, when soaring temperatures and high humidity will converge to produce heat index values of up to 101 degrees.
The combination of the heat and humidity will increase the risk for heat-related health issues tomorrow afternoon, especially for the elderly, people with chronic health problems such as lung and heart disease, people working outdoors and other heat-sensitive groups, according to the advisory.
The heat advisory will be in effect from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. tomorrow for for Suffolk, Nassau, New York City, southern Connecticut, northern New Jersey and the lower Hudson River Valley, the National Weather Service said today.
“To reduce risk during outdoor work the occupational safety and health administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments,” the National Weather service said. “Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency. Call 911 immediately for emergency medical assistance,” according to the advisory.
