(Updated: 7:41 p.m.) The operator of a motorcycle was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital this evening following a collision with a Hummer on Main Road in Jamesport.
The crash occurred at about 5:30 p.m. at the Herricks Lane intersection, when the Hummer attempted to enter Main Road in the path of the westbound motorcycle, which hit the driver’s side of the Hummer.
The male motorcycle operator, 69, was treated at the scene by Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps and transported to the helicopter landing zone on property owned by Martha Clara Vineyards on Herricks Lane, where he was transferred to a Suffolk County Police MedEvac helicopter for transport. He suffered injuries considered not life-threatening, including injuries to both arms.
Riverhead Police and Jamesport Fire Department fire police responded to handle traffic at the scene of the crash. Main Road was closed to traffic in both directions while the accident scene was cleared. Jamesport Fire Department also secured the landing zone for the helicopter transport.
