Griffing Avenue is closed to traffic between Main and Second streets due to Riverhead Water District contractors installing a water line for a new business and apartments on Griffing Avenue.

The owner of 114 Griffing Avenue is putting in a six-inch main to serve a fire suppression system required for the building, which will be occupied by a ground-floor commercial use and apartments on the second and third floors, Riverhead Water District Superintendent Mark Conklin said.

One lane of traffic should be open by early afternoon, Conklin said. The job will be completed by the end of the day, he said.
