Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps is holding an open house at its headquarters on Osborn Avenue today.
Visitors can tour ambulances, check out RVAC’s equipment, learn hands-free CPR with the EMTs and get their children’s car seats inspected by Suffolk County deputy sheriffs . Visitors can even enjoy a free lunch— volunteers are cooking up hot dogs and Moe’s has donated burritos.
There are coloring books and games for the kids, too.
RVAC hosts an open house every year to kick off EMS week, which this year runs from May 21 through 27.
“We welcome the community to stop in and visit,” RVAC Chief Rod Richardson said.
EMS Week is an annual recognition of Emergency Medical Services providers nationwide.
RVAC answered more than 4,000 calls in 2016, up over the approximately 3,400 calls answered in 2015, Richardson said.
RVAC headquarters is located at 1111 Osborn Avenue, just north of Route 58. The open house continues until 3 p.m. today.
