The Riverview Lofts proposal for a five-story, mixed-use development consisting of 118 apartments above 15,908 square feet of ground-floor commercial space on East Main Street and McDermott Avenue took a step forward this week with the acceptance of a draft environmental impact statement by the Riverhead Town Board.
The board on Tuesday night accepted the DEIS, prepared by Nelson Pope and Voorhis for the developer Georgica Green Ventures, as adequate for review. The DEIS will now be circulated to involved agencies for coordinated review pursuant to the State Environmental Quality Review Act.
The town board at its regular meeting Tuesday also authorized the settlement of a lawsuit pertaining to the acquisition by eminent domain of a portion of property on Route 58 taken to created Pulaski Street Extension, connecting Pulaski Street with Route 58 opposite the entrance to Riverhead Centre.
The town made an advance payment of $615,000 to the property owners, the heirs of Sophie Wilson, pursuant to the state Eminent Domain Law. The owners then filed a claim seeking damages of $3.125 million.
The settlement calls for an additional payment by the town of $275,000.
In other action Tuesday, the board:
Accepted a check from Luminati Aerospace in the sum of $13,050 to cover the expense of a survey and re-drafting of the subdivision map at the Calverton Enterprise Park, in contemplation of the sale of vacant land by the Town of Riverhead to Luminati Aerospace.
Appointed three new police officers to the town police force, effective June 25: Christopher Pendzick, Christie Smith and Robert Sproston.
Authorized the town supervisor to request the state Department of Transportation to study Edwards Avenue and South Jamesport Avenue to determine if reduced speed limits on the two roadways are warranted. The town’s traffic safety committee has recommended reducing the speed limit on Edwards Avenue to 40 mph and on South Jamesport Avenue to 30 mph.
Scheduled a July 18 public hearing on a code amendment that would allow small animal rehabilitation conducted by licensed rehabilitators at their homes in the Hamlet Residential Zoning Use District.
Ratified the professional services agreement with Vincent Metas of Coram for video/audio recording, editing, programming and other communications-related activities at the hourly fee of $16, from June 15 to Dec. 31, subject to a maximum expenditure of $2,500.
Approved the fireworks permit application of Riverhead Raceway for a fireworks display on Saturday, July 1 at approximately 9 p.m. (rain date Saturday, July 8 at the same approximate time).
Approved the special event permit of Native Events, Inc. for the Country Blues Festival Long Island, with live music, amusement rides, games, food concessions, alcoholic beverages, craft vendors and a petting zoo, at the Nassau County 4H camp property on Sound Avenue on the weekends of July 29-30 and Aug. 5-6.
