Riverhead lost its season opener to Lindenhurst 4-0 yesterday at the Pulaski sports complex in Riverhead.
Riverhead played a lackluster game, managing only two shots on the Lindenhurst net in the first half. Second half was no better, as Lindenhurst constantly pressured the Riverhead defense, forcing goalkeeper Angel Camarillo to make some key saves, but with 18:49 remaining in the second half, a collision in the Riverhead crease saw keeper Angel Camarillo go down on a nasty hit by Lindenhurst’s Colin Sherlock, forcing stoppage. Camarillo left the game in the back of an ambulance. When play started up, Lindenhurst scored three goals, making it 4-0. Riverhead’s next home game is Tuesday, Sept. 12, at 4 p.m.
