A young man was found dead at South Jamesport Beach early Monday morning, according to a police press release.
The man was 21 years old, according to police.
Riverhead Police received a 911 call around 2:49 a.m. Monday from someone who had discovered the man lying near a gazebo at South Jamesport Town Beach on Peconic Bay Boulevard.
An investigation by Riverhead Police and the Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s Office determined that he had died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said.
