A Riverhead Town Police Department patrol car was involved in a motor vehicle accident this afternoon.
The police officer and the occupant of the other vehicle sustained minor injuries, according to a Riverhead police press release.
A marked patrol car operated by Riverhead Police Officer Christopher Pendzick was northbound on Hulse Landing Road this afternoon at about 2:14 p.m. The patrol car, with emergency lights and sirens activated, attempted to pass on the left a 2003 Infinity G35 2d operated by Benjamin Simone, 19, of Wading River, according to Riverhead Town Police.
Simone turned his vehicle left onto 20th Street as the police vehicle passed, police said. Upon impact, both vehicles left the roadway onto the side yard of 118 20th Street, police said. Both vehicles came to a stop when striking a small yard shed and the residence itself, according to the police report. The occupants of the home were not injured, police said.
Pendzick and Simone sustained minor injuries and were transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment and were later released, police said.
The Riverhead Police Detective Division responded to the scene and conducted an investigation on scene. Any witnesses to the accident may contact the Detective Division at 631 727-4500 ext. 321.
