A woman reported being robbed at gunpoint by two unknown men in the parking lot of the Laundry Palace on Route 58 in Riverhead at about 12:45 a.m. Sunday.

The woman, 35, told Riverhead police she was sitting in her car in the parking lot of the 24-hour laundromat when a man opened the passenger side door of her vehicle and displayed what appeared to be a black handgun. He removed her purse, containing cash, from the front seat of the vehicle and, along with a second man, fled on foot in an unknown direction, according to the police report.

Riverhead police patrol units, with the assistance of a State Police K9 unit, searched the area with no result.

The victim could only describe her assailant as a “black male,” police said, and could provide no description of the second man. The Riverhead Town Police Detective Division is investigating.

This is an ongoing investigation and anyone with information is asked to call the Riverhead Detective Division at (631) 727-4500 ext. 326. All calls will be kept confidential, police said.
