McGann Mercy defeated Stony Brook School 51-28 to win the Class”C” Championship at Suffolk County Community College in Selden this afternoon.
The game started off slow for both teams, with Mercy having trouble finding the basket down low, as well as at the foul line. Mercy took a 28-11 lead into the locker room at the half.
The fourth quarter had Mercy pulling away, connecting on shots, stealing passes, and breaking up the Stony Brook plays at mid court. Mercy had possession for the final 23 seconds, and dribbled at half court to wind down the clock, seal the victory, and take home the Class”C” hardware for the Championship.
Mercy will play the winner of the Babylon/Mattituck game on Friday at Centereach High School. (Time of game TBA.)
Melina Santacroce led McGann-Mercy with 21 points, 15 rebounds and six steals. Caryn Nabrizny had nine points, 10 rebounds, seven assists, six steals.
