McGann-Mercy defeated Mattituck 7-4 at Mattituck High School yesterday.
It was an evenly matched game as both teams traded the lead twice. With the score tied 1-1 after three, Mercy scored two runs to take a 3-1 lead in the top of the fourth. Mattituck answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning to tie it at three.
Mattituck took a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the fifth and held it until the top of the seventh when Jordan Stromski doubled, driving in Sarah Penny to tie the score at 4. But the Monarchs didn’t stop there, as adding three more runs for a 7-4 lead.
Izzy Sorgi was solid in the circle with a complete game win, allowing seven hits, no walks and three strikeouts. Madison Osler took the loss for Mattituck.
Mercy is 7-8 in conference, and 7-9 overall. Their next home game is Tuesday, May 8, at 4:30 p.m. against Center Moriches.
