Penny’s complete game shutout lifts McGann-Mercy in Class C finals opener

McGann-Mercy defeated Southold 3-0 in the opening game of the Class C finals yesterday at McGann-Mercy High School.

Sarah Penny pitched a complete-game gem, fanning 11 and giving up just four hits and no walks.

Katie Wilkie tripled for the Monarchs. McGann-Mercy scored in the first, third, and fourth innings. Southold’s Liz Jernick took the loss.

McGann-Mercy could win the league title in the next game of this best-of-three series. It is scheduled for Wednesday, May 23 at Southold High School at 4:30 p.m.
