Russell C. Wells Sr. of Riverhead died May 25, 2018 at Dominican Village in Amityville. He was 96 years old.
He was born Jan. 28, 1922 in Greenport, the son of John and Carrie (Wella) Wells.
He was a 1941 graduate of Greenport High School and served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II, from 1942 to 1945. He worked as a methods engineer at Grumman Aerospace.
In his spare time, he enjoyed sports, gardening, model airplanes and fishing. He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus.
Predeceased by his wife Therese in 2000, he is survived by his sons Russell C. Jr., Richard A. and Kevin J. and by his daughter Jeanne Ann Schilling. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
The family will receive visitors on Wednesday, May 30 from 7 to 9 p.m. at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday, May 31 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Isidore R.C. Church in Riverhead. Interment will follow at Calverton National Cemetery.
