Three trade union recruitments announced by state labor department

Three local trade unions are conducting upcoming recruitments for apprentices, the N.Y. State Department of Labor has announced.

The Bricklayers and Allied Craft Workers JAC Local Union #1 will conduct a recruitment from Sept. 28 through June 28, 2019 for 10 bricklayer-mason apprentices; five stone mason apprentices; 10 pointer, caulker, & cleaner apprentices; and five plasterer apprentices.

The Northeastern Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for the Outside Electrical Industry will conduct a recruitment from Oct. 14 through Oct. 13, 2019 for 15 to 30 electrical (outside) line worker apprentices.

The Roofers, Waterproofers and Allied Workers Local Union #154 will conduct a recruitment from Oct. 16 through Oct. 3, 2019 for five roofer apprentices.

The Bricklayers and Allied Craft Workers Union will make applications available at the International Masonry Institute, 12-07 44th Avenue, Long Island City, NY 11101 from 8 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. on the following dates: Sept. 28, Oct. 26,Nov. 30, Dec. 21, Jan. 25, Feb. 22, March 29, April 26, May 31, and June 28. Doors will open at 8 a.m. and there will be no admittance after 8:30 a.m. An aptitude test will be conducted at the time of application. Testing and processing will be held until 10 a.m. Mail-in or online applications will not be accepted. Applications for Line Workers Recruit Apprentices may be obtained at any time during the recruitment period from the following website: http://www.NEAT1968.org. There is a $25 test processing fee required with all completed applications. Applicants may request that this fee be waived. Fee waivers will be approved upon showing verifiable proof of financial need. Applicants who do not have Internet access should visit their local library or their nearest New York State Department of Labor Career Center. Applications for Roofers, Waterproofers, and Allied Workers union apprentices
can be obtained from Local Union #154, 370 Vanderbilt Motor Parkway, Suite 1 Rear, Hauppauge, NY, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period. Applications must be received no later than October 3, 2019. Apprenticeship and training committees have certain minimum requirements for applicants, including proof of age (minimum of 18), high school diploma or GED,
and other requirements depending on the jobs being recruited for. More information is available on the unions’ websites.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
