A Calverton man was arrested on weapon and drug charges last night following a traffic stop on Kroemer Avenue in Riverhead, according to a Riverhead Town Police report.

A Riverhead Police COPE unit stopped a vehicle driven by Roger M. Foster Jr., 21, of Calverton on Kroemer Avenue near Old Country Road just before 6 p.m. last night, police said in a press release this morning. The officers conducted a narcotics search of Foster’s vehicle and found marijuana and a loaded Ruger .380 handgun, according to the release. Foster was later found to be in possession of oxycodone hydrochloride pills, police said.

Foster was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a loaded firearm in the second degree, a class C felony, criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree and unlawful possession of marijuana, according to the report. He was processed and held for arraignment.

Editor’s note: A criminal charge is an accusation. By law, a person charged with a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
