Everyone knows what a spirit-lifter a bunch of bright yellow daffodils can be. The American Cancer Society‘s Daffodil Days program celebrates the arrival of spring while brightening the spirits and offering hope to cancer patients across Long Island.

The society is seeking individuals to organize flower orders in support of its Daffodil Days campaign. Volunteers promote the fundraiser at their worksites, schools, faith-based organizations and neighborhoods by taking orders from colleagues, customers and friends, beginning in January through Feb. 14. No experience is necessary and full support is offered including flyers, order forms, newsletter content, social media messaging and other materials to help get the word out. Coordinators take orders, collect money and distribute the flowers when they arrive in March — just in time for spring.

Bouquets cost $10 each or $15 for a potted plant of mini daffodils. Donors also have the option of giving a “Gift of Hope” contribution enabling a cancer patient to receive an anonymous gift bouquet at a local cancer center during the first week of spring.

The American Cancer Society has many other opportunities to volunteer — help is needed the week of March 18, to pick up, sort and deliver the pre-ordered flower bouquets donated to cancer patients at local cancer centers. In addition, there is always a great need for volunteers to drive cancer patients from their homes to a cancer center for treatment (hours can be as few as an hour once a month). For more information about volunteer driving opportunities, please call 800-227-2345.
