Riverhead Police report an attempted burglary of an occupied home on South Jamesport Avenue this morning.

Police said they received a call at 9:57 a.m. from the homeowner, who was in the home when an unknown male attempted to pry open a window to gain entry to his residence. When the suspect realized the resident was in the home, he fled north on South Jamesport Avenue, police said.

Patrol units arrived on scene shortly thereafter and a searched the area with the assistance of the Suffolk County Sherriff’s Department K9 Unit, without results.

The suspect was described as a male in his late teens to early 20s with a thin build.

A burglary of an occupied home on Peconic Bay Boulevard in Aquebogue this morning at around 4 a.m. was reported by police earlier today.
