‘Disorderly’ Railroad Avenue bar shuttered by State Liquor Authority

A Railroad Avenue bar that was the scene of a couple of violent incidents in recent months has had its liquor license canceled by the State Liquor Authority.

The Caboose Pub at 131 Railroad Avenue was allowed to become disorderly and become a focal point of police attention, in violation of the state Alcoholic Beverage Control Law and the rules of the N.Y. State Liquor Authority board, according to an April 10 cancellation order approved by the State Liquor Authority board. The order, which was signed April 15, took effect April 19.

The bar was the scene of a fight Dec. 1 in which a man was slashed with a knife. A Riverhead man was charged with felony assault in connection with the incident.

Two people were shot in the rear parking lot behind the pub on Sept. 29. Two weeks later, Riverhead Police charged a Riverhead man with felony assault in that incident.

The licensee, DGG Corp., did not comply with regulations concerning the employment of security guards at the premises, according to the liquor authority. It also knowingly employed a person who had been convicted of a felony, a misdemeanor or an offense specified in Alcoholic Beverage Control Law section 102, subdivision 2, which lists nine different offenses.

Riverhead Police Chief David Hegermiller said today he was pleased that the work the department did to document the activity at the premises resulted in the license cancellation.

DGG Corp. pleaded no contest to the charges, according to the order.

DGG Corp. dba The Caboose has been the licensee at the premises since June 2011. The bar was previously operated by different corporate licensees as Danny’s Den and the Loose Caboose.

The building is owned by Brandy Corp., c/o Daniel Gilligan, 106A Squiretown Road, Hampton Bays, according to town and county records. Brandy Corp. has owned the property since September 1995.

Gilligan is listed as a principal in DGG Corp., according to State Liquor Authority records.
