Route 58 will get its sixth fast-food restaurant with drive-thru service tomorrow when Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen opens for business.

The restaurant chain sells spicy, Louisiana-style fried chicken, shrimp and fish. It was founded in New Orleans in 1972 and has grown into an international chain with over 2,000 restaurants. Its parent company is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia.

Popeyes will open its doors in Riverhead tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. The 2,265-square-foot, 30-seat restaurant is located at 212 Old Country Road (Route 58), just west of DMV Plaza.

Popeyes joins existing fast-food restaurants Taco Bell, Wendy’s KFC, Burger King and McDonald’s on the Route 58 commercial strip.

A Sonic restaurant, which will also have a drive-thru, is planned for a Route 58 site just west of Osborne Avenue. The developer got preliminary site plan approval from the planning board in December 2015.
