The New York Marine Rescue Center will host Paddle Battle LI Saturday, July 27, at the Peconic River in Riverhead.

Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. for the family-friendly event, including a 2.5-mile amateur race and a 5-mile competitive course. First-place medals will be issued to winners in each category.

New this year is a casual paddle. The event is not a race, but a causal paddle around the Peconic River, open to all.

Entry fees are $60 in advance; $75 on race day. Rental kayaks and canoes are available for $30. Team challenge registration begins at 9 p.m., with the race beginning at 11:30 a.m. Sponsorship is $1,000 per team and must be submitted by July 20. All proceeds will benefit the New York Marine Rescue Center to help save sea turtles.

Rental canoes and kayaks are available for $15. Life vests are required for all racers; all participants must wear their own personal floatation devices during the race.
