Vincent Papa of Southold died on Aug. 25, 2021 at Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead. He was 82 years old.
He was born on July 6, 1939 in New York City to Ada (Cannarsa) and Gaetano Papa. After high school, Vincent joined the U.S. Army and served from 1959 to 1961 attaining the rank of Specialist 4th class.
He worked for AAA Auto Club of New York for 50 years retiring as Chief Financial Officer — he started from the mail room and worked his way to the board room. He was a member of Laurel Links Country Club in Laurel and Jonathan’s Landing Country Club in Jupiter, Florida.
He was predeceased by his siblings Eugene, Rosaria, Thomas, Ada and Joanne. He is survived by his wife Maureen, children Vincent (Nicole) of Patchogue and Annemarie Bassett (Todd) of Williamsburg, Pennsylvania, grandchildren Jillian Bassett, Jocelyn Bassett, Allison and Melanie and siblings Paul, Victor and Linda.
The family received visitors on Sunday, Aug. 29 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck. The Liturgy of Christian Burial was held on Monday, Aug. 30 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel R.C. Church in Mattituck. The Rite of Committal was private.
